China stocks post best weekly gain since 2008 on stimulus package cheer

China’s stock market recorded its best week in 16 years, driven by Beijing’s most aggressive stimulus package since the pandemic, just before the Golden Week holidays. The CSI300 and Shanghai Composite indexes surged about 16 per cent and 13 per cent, respectively. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index also rose by 13 per cent.
