Delhi: Lack of funds hits maintenance on model Chandni Chowk stretch

The redevelopment of the Chandni Chowk stretch in Delhi has become a major problem within two years. Civil Defence volunteers have suspended their duties due to unpaid salaries, while a private housekeeping and sanitation company has withdrawn its services because of unpaid dues. The pedestrian zone is also facing violations, with motorised vehicles causing congestion during restricted hours. The lack of funds in the Public Works Department has been cited as the main issue, and it is suggested that the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation and Municipal Corporation of Delhi take responsibility for managing the area.
