Disturbed Areas Act: Gujarat govt to withdraw amendments

By on October 26, 2023 0 14 Views

The Gujarat government is planning to withdraw the amended provisions of the Disturbed Areas Act, which imposes restrictions on property transactions in notified areas. The government intends to make new changes to the law. The amendments, which were introduced in 2020, were stayed by the Gujarat high court in January 2021. The amendments were opposed by the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, who argued that they were unconstitutional and violated the principles of equality, tolerance, and secularism. The amendments aimed to segregate communities and ghettoize the city based on religious identity.
