Ecuadorians have voted in a runoff election between Daniel Noboa and Luisa Gonzalez, both of whom have limited governing experience. The election took place amidst a backdrop of increasing drug-related violence in the country. Whichever candidate wins will only govern for 15 months until May 2025, as the previous president, Guillermo Lasso, cut his term short. Under Lasso’s watch, violent deaths in the country reached a record high.
