Fact-checking unit to ‘counter fake, communally provocative news’ online

The Uttarakhand police will establish a fact-checking unit to combat fake news and communally provocative content on social media, including those generated using artificial intelligence (AI). The move comes after a suggestion by the IB special director at the All-India Police Science Congress. The state’s DGP, Ashok Kumar, emphasized the need for such a unit in the era of social media and highlighted the importance of countering AI-generated fake news. The fact-checking unit will help verify information and dispel misinformation more effectively.
