Karnataka is currently facing an outbreak of Feline panleukopenia (FP) among domestic and wild cats, with several deaths reported. The state forest department has called an emergency meeting to address the situation. The FP virus is highly contagious among cats and has a high mortality rate, particularly among young ones. Containment measures have been implemented, with infected cats being quarantined. Officials suspect that the infection may have been caused by visitors to the safari area or animal keepers with cats at home.
