Germany, France hold unprecedented cabinet retreat to oil creaky EU motor

France and Germany are holding a two-day retreat in Hamburg to address disagreements on energy, industry, and defense policy. The Franco-German relationship, which has historically driven EU policy, has weakened recently due to different priorities and a lack of chemistry between French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
