NASA’s new X-ray space telescope has captured an eerie image of a supernova explosion that resembles a skeletal hand in deep space. The image, known as MSH 15-52 or the “ghostly hand,” shows a pulsar at the base of the hand shooting particles into space, forming the shape. Scientists used Nasa’s Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) to study the hand for 17 days, providing new information about the pulsar’s magnetic field and X-ray polarization.
