Govt withdraws criminal justice bills, fresh drafts this week

The government withdrew the criminal justice bills from Parliament and will redraft and reintroduce them after incorporating recommendations from the parliamentary committee. Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to introduce the revised version of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita Bill 2023, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Samhita Bill 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill 2023. The decision to redraft the bills was made to avoid excessive amendments as the government has accepted several recommendations from the committee. The committee suggested changes to protect electronic and digital records and correct subject matter inconsistencies.
