How we can curb stray population, eradicate rabies

The presence of community dogs in India has received mixed reactions. Aggression among stray dogs is often due to conflicts over territory, food, mating, or protectiveness towards their young. Dumping garbage aggravates the issue and our aggressive behavior towards strays triggers their defense mechanisms. It is important to teach compassion and not fear towards these animals. NGOs and volunteer groups in Pune are working towards the welfare of community animals, but they face abuse and intimidation. Feeding and caring for street animals is every citizen’s responsibility, and sterilization helps control their population and aggressive behavior. It is illegal to relocate stray dogs, as it leads to conflicts and human bites.
