Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has nominated Shaik Aayesha, a Muslim woman, as a candidate for the University of Hyderabad student union elections. This marks the first time a Muslim woman is running for the union’s top post. Aayesha, who is pursuing a PhD in Chemistry, claims that ABVP is “pro-minority” and supports Muslim women in leadership roles. Her opponent, Mohammed Ateeq Ahmed, argues that her selection is merely for the sake of “representation politics.
