In Hamas’ horrific killings, Israeli trauma over the Holocaust resurfaces

The recent Hamas assault on southern Israeli communities has triggered painful memories of the Holocaust for many Israelis. The attack, which killed at least 1,300 Israelis, has led to direct comparisons between the murder of 6 million Jews in Europe and the recent tragedy, highlighting the traumatic impact on a country that was created as a safe haven for Jews. The retaliation against Hamas has also drawn comparisons to the Palestinians’ greatest national tragedy, the Nakba.
