India’s most advanced fast breeder reactor gets regulator’s nod for loading N-fuel

India’s 500 MWe sodium-cooled prototype fast breeder reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam has received approval from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) to begin operationalising. This development allows for nuclear fuel loading and initiation of the chain reaction. Once operational, India will join Russia as the only countries with commercially operating fast breeder reactors.
