An undertrial prisoner in Pune used two cellphones to smuggle drugs worth Rs 2 crore into the city. The prisoner, Lalit Patil, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital, had the cellphones in his possession. The drugs were being transported by a courier, Subhas Mandal, who was intercepted by the police and found to be carrying 1kg of drugs. A waiter from the hospital’s canteen was also arrested for allegedly facilitating the smuggling. An inquiry has been ordered to determine how the prisoner gained access to the cellphones.
