Joseph Quinn reflects on the challenge of following Joaquin Phoenix’s iconic role in Gladiator II

​In Gladiator II, Quinn’s character, Emperor Geta, rules alongside his brother, Emperor Caracalla, played by Fred Hechinger. Director Ridley Scott described the two brothers as reminiscent of the mythological figures Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome. Scott added that, much like their mythical counterparts, Geta and Caracalla had a tumultuous relationship and were likely “brain-damaged” from their harsh upbringing.
