Kolkata hospital horror: On Independence Day, women seek freedom from fear, hit the streets to ‘reclaim the night’

Lakhs of women participated in protests across Kolkata, Salt Lake, and other cities, including international locations, seeking justice for a victim of a crime at RG Kar Medical College. The demonstrations called for secure all-night transport and safe resting rooms for night workers. The movement, initiated by researcher Rimjhim Sinha, aimed to reclaim safety and independence for women at night. The local police increased night-time security.
