Manipur tense after clashes erupt, security forces fire tear gas shells

In Manipur’s Imphal East district, tensions flared between Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and security forces. Tear gas was used to disperse protestors demanding rehabilitation and an end to ethnic violence. Around 100 IDPs were involved, with additional confrontations occurring. The conflict, which began in May 2023, has claimed 226 lives and displaced over 59,000 people.
