Microsoft opens new in-house AI front, hiring Altman
Microsoft has hired Sam Altman, the former CEO of OpenAI, to head a new unit focused on advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Despite being an early investor in OpenAI, Microsoft’s move highlights a rift in the AI world between caution and rapid advancement. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella expressed commitment to the partnership with OpenAI but stated excitement about Altman and his team leading the new AI research team. Emmett Shear, former CEO of Twitch, was appointed as the new CEO of interim OpenAI.
