Mpox becomes global health emergency: Clade 1 vs Clade 2; differences in symptoms and severity

WHO declared mpox a global health emergency after over 15,000 cases and 537 deaths this year. The clade 1b strain is behind the current outbreak, affecting Central Africa and spreading to Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. Clade 1 is more deadly, with higher fatality rates and severe symptoms, while Clade 2 is milder and less infectious.
