Mukhtar Ansari’s brother stays an MP as high court junks conviction

The Allahabad High Court nullified the conviction and four-year sentence of Ghazipur MP Afzal Ansari in a Gangsters’ Act case related to BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai’s 2005 murder. The decision removes uncertainty regarding Afzal’s Lok Sabha membership. Despite previous convictions, he was acquitted of Rai’s murder in 2019, although the CBI has appealed this in Delhi HC.
