Muslim women can seek maintenance from husbands after divorce: SC

The Supreme Court has made a landmark decision, stating that Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which pertains to a wife’s entitlement to maintenance, is applicable to all married women, irrespective of their religious affiliation. This ruling establishes that Muslim women have the right to seek maintenance after divorce under this legal provision. The judgment was delivered by a bench consisting of Justices BV Nagarathna and Augustine George Masih, who provided separate but concurring opinions.
