NCRB, transport ministry differ on road deaths data

By on December 18, 2023 0 20 Views

Two government agencies, the National Crime Records Bureau and the ministry of road transport, have published data on the number of people killed in road crashes in 2022, showing a significant discrepancy of up to 42%. The reports differ in documenting pedestrian deaths, truck occupant fatalities, and deaths of occupants of cars, jeeps, and other light motor vehicles. Experts attribute these discrepancies to limited understanding and inconsistent data collection methods. They emphasize the need for proper training, collaboration between ministries, and a standardized data collection system to accurately understand and address road crashes in the country.
