New promotion policy in Indian Army kicks off on Jan 1
The Army has finalized a new promotion policy, emphasizing meritocracy and physical fitness. The policy aims to reduce disparity among the arms and services within the force. It will come into effect from January 1 and will apply to select ranks of Colonel, Brigadier, Major General, and Lt-General. The new policy aligns leadership requirements with present and emerging operational challenges. It addresses cadre aspirations, strengthens meritocracy, and ensures equitable satisfaction in promotion boards. Additionally, physically fit officers will receive command appointments at the Colonel and Brigadier ranks.
