NHRC advisory proposes inclusion of mental illness in ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme

The National Human Rights Commission has recommended that mental illness be included in the Ayushman Bharat scheme to improve accessibility to treatment for financially disadvantaged populations. The commission also suggested that insurance policies and schemes cover mental illnesses to increase affordability. Additionally, the commission called for the creation of more postgraduate seats and the inclusion of psychiatry in the undergraduate medical curriculum.
