No plan to hike OBC quota in civic polls: Govt

The government on Wednesday told Rajya Sabha that there is no proposal to increase reservation for Other Backward Castes (OBCs) as per population in the local body elections. But the state government can take a call to increase the reservation. In response to a query during question hour, minister of state for panchayati raj, Kapil Moreshwar Patil, said OBCs are provided one-third reservation under Article 243D of the Constitution. “However, 21 state governments have increased the reservation up to 50%.
