No pre-planned plot in Atiq Ahmed killing: UP judicial panel

The judicial commission investigating the April 15, 2023, murder of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf in police custody, ruled out the possibility of a pre-planned conspiracy or police negligence. The commission’s 191-page report, tabled in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, concluded that their deaths were not the result of state police actions. The panel further recommended that the media be regulated when covering sensitive incidents to avoid compromising police operations. Additionally, it suggested identifying specific hospitals for medical examinations of accused persons in police custody at district and tehsil levels.
