Prez Returns Bill On DERC Chief’s Age
The President has rejected a bill passed by the Delhi Assembly to increase the retirement age of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) chairperson and members. The President stated that the Assembly did not have the power to legislate on this matter as it falls under the central law. The bill aimed to amend the age criteria to avoid delays in announcing the annual power tariff. The DERC currently has two members and a chairman, with their tenure fixed at five years or until the age of 65.
