Production halt in Parsa East & Kanta Basan block in Chhattisgarh results in scarce fuel supply in Rajasthan

Production halt at the Parsa East & Kanta Basan coal block in Chhattisgarh has led to a shortage of coal supply in Rajasthan, a state due to have elections next month. The chief ministers of both states have been discussing the issue. The coal mine in Chhattisgarh is owned by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited. If tree felling does not occur soon, it could result in a loss of around 9 million tonnes of coal production in FY’24. The Centre has allocated additional coal from Coal India to help alleviate the shortage.
