PSUs, mining companies to pay states royalty, tax dues from 2005: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court issued a directive for mining companies and mineral users to pay backdated royalty and taxes on mineral-bearing land to states from 2005. The arrears, payable over 12 years, will exclude interest and penalties. This follows an eight-to-one ruling allowing states to levy these charges, overruling a prior 1991 decision.
