Environmentalists in Pune have expressed concern over the burning of garbage in the city, after a video of toxic smoke from the Mula riverbed circulated on social media. The group has approached the Pune Municipal Corporation to take action against those responsible. Activists argue that the city’s air quality is poor and that the administration is not doing enough to address the issue. The PMC reports that an average of 50 to 70 cases of garbage burning and open dumping are filed each month.
