Relief for law grads as Supreme Court caps fees for advocate enrolment

The Supreme Court of India ruled that Bar Council of India (BCI) and state bar councils cannot charge more than Rs 700 for enrolling law graduates as advocates. A bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud deemed the high fees, which went up to Rs 42,000 in some states, as discriminatory and violative of graduates’ right to dignity.
