Officials at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu are celebrating as a sub-adult tiger successfully killed a sambar deer. The tiger had been placed in a 10,000 sqft enclosure without human contact for 17 months as part of an experiment to rewild the animal. The tiger has also killed and eaten other prey, but it must kill at least 50 deer and wild pigs before it can be considered ready for release into the wild. A committee will review the tiger’s hunting skills before deciding if it is ready to be released.
