Rural job scheme workers dig up gold coins
In Kerala’s Kannur district, MGNREGS workers digging rainwater harvesting pits in a rubber plantation unearthed a mud pot containing gold and silver coins and ornaments. Initially mistaking the pot for a bomb, the workers discovered the treasures when the container burst open, revealing 17 pearl beads, 13 gold medallions, traditional ‘kashumala’ medallions, a pair of earrings, and silver coins. Found near Parippai Govt LP School in Chemagai panchayat, the antiques are estimated to be around 200 years old.
