SC: Single event may not be enough to claim cruelty

The Supreme Court quashed criminal proceedings against four individuals, including the sister and cousins of the accused, in a case involving alleged offences under Sections 498A and 506 of the IPC. The court stated that a single instance, without evidence of interference or involvement in the complainant’s marital life, may not be enough to implicate someone in a case of subjecting a married woman to cruelty. The Karnataka High Court’s order refusing to quash the chargesheet was challenged in the plea.
