SC takes suo motu cognizance of Kolkata case, hearing on Aug 20

The Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. Hearing set for August 20 follows massive protests by doctors and citizens, demanding justice. The Indian Medical Association led a nationwide strike, halting non-essential medical services. Investigation was transferred to the CBI.
