Shun lehengas: Sikh religious body’s dress code for brides

By on December 18, 2023 0 20 Views

An advisory from Hazur Sahib in Maharashtra’s Nanded sets out a dress code for brides during Sikh wedding ceremonies. Brides are urged to wear ‘salwar-kameez and chunni’ instead of heavy lehengas. Wedding cards must include the suffixes – /Singh’ and ‘Kaur’ for the groom and bride. The advisory aims to curtail unnecessary expenditure on extravagant weddings and maintain the sanctity of the ceremony. The Gurmat also creates room for adoption and implementation by other Takhts.
