Speaker moves resolution condemning Emergency, Cong isolated

The new session of the Lok Sabha started with an intriguing development as the Congress faced isolation when the newly-elected Speaker initiated a motion to condemn the Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government to quell dissent. The resolution, endorsing the retrospective approval by the Indira Gandhi Cabinet of the presidential decree that suspended democratic norms and civil liberties, received backing from Congress allies such as SP, DMK, and TMC, alongside the BJP and its coalition partners.
