Study: Puneites lost Rs 41cr this year to cyber frauds
Victims of online fraud in Pune have collectively lost Rs 41.3 crore between January and December 2 this year, according to a study by the city’s cyber crime police station. The study revealed that 76 FIRs were registered in the cyber crime police station, with additional FIRs registered in other police stations. The victims have been conned in cases of task fraud, courier parcel fraud, loan fraud, gift fraud, job fraud, OTP fraud, and others. The study also revealed that a large chunk of the FIRs pertain to task frauds and courier frauds, in which victims have lost huge sums of money. A sum of Rs 4.1 crore has been frozen and Rs 3.5 lakh has been returned to the victims.
