Supreme Court uses ‘special powers’ to grant 2nd wife pension

The Supreme Court of India invoked Article 142 of the Constitution to grant pension benefits to a second wife, despite her marriage occurring while the first wife was alive. The court acknowledged the woman’s long struggle and unique case specifics, thus deciding she should receive the family pension from January 1, 2010, onward.
