To ‘curb love jihad’, UP proposes life imprisonment for accused

The Uttar Pradesh assembly considered a bill to amend the Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, raising the maximum punishment to life imprisonment and a Rs 5 lakh fine. The amendment, introduced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, targets forced conversions through threats, marriage, or trafficking, allowing any person to report such crimes.
