UP woman gets lifer for setting ‘ugly’ hubby ablaze

A woman in Bareilly has been sentenced to life imprisonment for setting her husband on fire and killing him due to her dissatisfaction with his appearance. The woman, Premshree, resented her husband’s dark complexion and repeatedly asked for a divorce. Despite their conflicts, they had a daughter together. Premshree doused her husband with petrol as he slept and he later succumbed to his injuries. The court’s judgment confirmed the husband’s dying declaration naming his wife as his murderer. Premshree claimed she tried to save him but inconsistencies in her account were noted by the court.
