Upper age limit raised in TN for recruiting govt school teachers
The Tamil Nadu school education department has raised the upper age limit for Teacher Eligibility Test qualified candidates, allowing government schools to hire more experienced teachers. The upper age limit for open category candidates has been relaxed from 40 to 53 years, while for reserved categories it has been relaxed from 45 to 58 years. The move comes after a decade without the recruitment of secondary grade and graduate teachers, leading to demands for age relaxation from TET qualified candidates. Teacher organizations have welcomed the decision but are calling for it to be extended to all teacher appointments.
