US panel on religious freedom calls for sanction on India for Nijjar killing
US religious freedom watchdog calls on Biden administration to designate India as a “country of particular concern” and impose sanctions. The Indian government’s alleged involvement in the killings of Sikh activists in Canada and the US is deeply troubling. USCIRF is alarmed by India’s increased transnational targeting of religious minorities. Indian authorities use spyware and online harassment campaigns to intimidate activists and journalists advocating for religious minorities. The US government should engage with Indian officials and international partners to ensure religious minorities are protected from reprisal.
