Why continuing fall in Delhi’s sex ratio is cause for concern

Gynaecologist Nancy Nagpal highlighted a continued preference for male children in affluent families. Delhi has monitored the sex ratio through institutional births since 2004. In 2023, the city recorded an infant mortality rate of 23.61 per 1,000 live births, while maternal mortality was 0.45 per 1,000. Septicaemia was a notable cause of death, indicating a need for better hospital conditions.
