With ‘GPS anklets’, cops to monitor terror-accused on bail

By on November 4, 2023 0 20 Views

Jammu and Kashmir Police will now use GPS tracker devices fitted on anklets to monitor terror-accused individuals out on bail. This move, a first in India, aims to prevent accused persons from jumping bail. The anklet tracker was first worn by Ghulam Mohammed Bhat, an operative linked to Hizbul Mujahideen, who is accused in a 2007 terror financing case. The use of GPS trackers for monitoring accused persons on bail is already common in countries like the US, UK, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
