‘Ghazipur abattoir discharging untreated effluent into Yamuna’
The National Green Tribunal has found that untreated effluent from Ghazipur’s slaughterhouse is being discharged into the Yamuna river. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been given four weeks to meet environmental norms. The slaughterhouse was previously shut down for violating environmental norms but was allowed to reopen with conditions. However, a recent inspection found that untreated effluent was being discharged into the river. The tribunal has granted the corporation four weeks to rectify the issue and has asked for an inspection after this period. The DPCC has been asked to carry out water testing after eight weeks.
