Former President Donald Trump could face fines or even jail time after a judge threatened to hold him in contempt for failing to delete a disparaging social media post about a court staffer. Judge Arthur Engoron called the retention of the post on Trump’s campaign website a “blatant violation” of his previous order. Trump’s lawyer blamed the oversight on the campaign’s “very large machine,” but Engoron stated that Trump is ultimately responsible. The judge had issued a gag order prohibiting personal attacks on court staff members. The civil fraud trial involves a lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James accusing Trump of fraud.
